The Power of Cryotherapy.

Cryotherapy is a treatment that involves exposing the body to extremely low temperatures for a short period of time. This short 3 minute burst of cold causes blood vessels to constrict then dilate leading to an increase in blood flow and circulation around the body.

FAQs

  • If you're using cryotherapy for pain management or to reduce swelling, it's typically recommended to undergo regular sessions, either daily or several times a week, for a set period of time. The length and frequency of the sessions will depend on the severity of your condition and your response to the treatment.

If you're using cryotherapy for athletic recovery or to improve mental health, it's often recommended to use it as needed, typically after intense physical activity or during periods of stress.

  • The best way to start cryotherapy is to have a chat to your healthcare professional to ensure you’re the right candidate for cryotherapy. Some conditions may hinder your chances such as heart problems or circulation issues.

At Social Remedy Byron Bay, we have staff on hand to help you through the process of your first cryo therapy treatment should you wish to start.

  • The cryotherapy healing process involves several physiological and psychological mechanisms that work together to promote healing and reduce pain and inflammation. Here is a general overview of the cryotherapy healing process:

    • Constriction of blood vessels: When the body is exposed to extremely cold temperatures, the blood vessels constrict, reducing blood flow to the affected area and reducing pain and swelling.

    • Dilation of blood vessels: After the treatment, the blood vessels dilate, allowing for an increased flow of oxygenated blood to the affected area, which promotes healing.

    • Release of endorphins: Cryotherapy has been shown to increase the release of endorphins, the body's natural painkillers, which can reduce pain and improve mood.

    • Improved immune response: Cold exposure has been shown to stimulate the immune system, helping the body fight off infection and promoting healing.

    • Improved circulation: Cryotherapy can improve circulation, which can promote healing by delivering oxygen and nutrients to damaged tissues and removing waste products.

    • Reduced inflammation: Cold exposure has been shown to reduce inflammation, which can help reduce pain and promote healing in conditions such as arthritis and tendonitis.
